How is my data protected against loss or corruption?
MyEDiary partners with Amazon Web Services (AWS) for best-in-class, state of the art secure data warehousing within Australia.
AWS provides a highly durable storage infrastructure. Objects are redundantly stored on multiple devices across multiple facilities in an AWS Region, which for MyEDiary equates to two separate facilities in Sydney, Australia. Once stored, AWS maintains the durability of objects by quickly detecting and repairing any lost redundancy.
AWS also regularly verifies the integrity of data stored using checksums. If corruption is detected, it is repaired using redundant data. If the data were to become corrupt we can handle the scenarios below in the following way:
- Instance fails but EBS (Amazon Elastic Block Store) volume is preserved
The data can be recovered and restored. Our platform will automatically promote a slave instance to take over and our engineering team will be alerted about the takeover.
Down time will be a few seconds, if any at all, prior to the automated takeover.
- EBS volume fails
The database instance can be rebuilt from the most recent database backup and new application instances created from environment snapshots.
Down time might be up to 20 minutes.
Data stored in AWS services is designed to provide 99.999999999% durability and 99.99% availability of objects over a given year.
